Henry John Drewal

Curatorial Consulting

Since 1974, I have curated numerous exhibitions of African and African diaspora art -- ancient traditions as well as contemporary expressions (see CV). These include several museum permanent gallery installations (The Cleveland Museum of Art, the Toledo Museum of Art, and the Neuberger Museum-SUNY-Purchase, and the Chazen Museum of Art), as well as many temporary and traveling exhibitions on a wide variety of themes. I strive as much as possible to provide the cultural and historical contexts of objects in order to illuminate their significance and impact in the lives of those who commissioned, created, and used them. With contemporary work, I present artists' voices in dialogue with my own. I am well prepared to serve as a curator or curatorial consultant.
